KUCHING: A five-year-old boy suffering from multiple diseases has received aid from Hope Place, a non-governmental organisation here.

Juwanda Aida, who is bedridden and tube-fed is afflicted by cerebral palsy (CP), chronic lung disease, and Global Development Delay (GDD).

Living with his parents and two siblings at Mile 13 here, the boy is also unable to move nor speak.

Juwanda’s father, Riyawandi, 43, works as a daily paid construction worker, earning about RM55 daily while his mother, Aida, 39, takes care of Juwanda at home.

Despite having her hands full taking care of Juwanda, Aida also works part-time cleaning bird’s nests at home while Juwanda’s eldest brother, 21, sells chicken at the market, earning RM40 daily.

Overall, the household’s total income barely reaches RM1,000 monthly.

“With financial burdens like rent, utility bills and medical bills, the family struggles to survive. However, for Aida and her husband, money is not the utmost worry, as their youngest boy’s life and future is at stake,” the NGO said in a statement.

“Not knowing what the future may hold, the family is hoping for the best,” it added.

On top of that, Juwanda’s 13-year-old sister has not been able to continue schooling, so Hope Place is also trying to make arrangements for her to go back to school.

“Currently, Hope Place is supporting Juwanda with supplies of children’s diapers and milk powder,” it said.
