KUCHING: Hope Place, a charitable non-governmental organisation, recently provided assistance to a 65-year-old man, who was diagnosed with stage 4 follicular lymphoma, a form of cancer.
Heng Sing Hong, a retired taxi driver residing in Sungai Maong Hilir with his wife Mui, requires chemotherapy treatment at Sarawak General Hospital.
Due to his condition, he is unable to consume solid food and can only rely on special milk supplements recommended by doctors.
Mui explained that Heng does not have a liking for milk and reluctantly drinks it twice daily to fill his stomach. As a result, Heng has experienced significant weight loss and physical weakness.
Heng has children from his previous marriage, but their relationship is strained, particularly after his remarriage.
Similarly, Mui has adult children from her previous marriage, but they rarely maintain contact. Currently, Mui is the sole income provider for both of them, working part-time at a pet shop for a daily wage of RM35.
Additionally, Heng suffers from partial visual impairment, with one of his eyes experiencing blurred vision. He currently receives RM500 in financial aid from the Social Welfare Department. Hope Place has stepped in to support Heng by providing him with supplies of special milk powder supplements.
