KUCHING: Until Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) holds its due processes to accept or decline SUPP Stakan branch secretary Sivanesan Sanmugalingam’s resignation, branch chairman Sim Kiang Chiok hopes that he will reconsider his decision.
He said that there were many battles to be fought to win the war.
“Our party needs all the help, especially Comrade Siva, who has the experience and sincerity to face the future challenges and assist our party and Sarawak to move forward,” he said when contacted yesterday (Oct 2).
He emphasised that now with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, it was time to consolidate and gather strength — strategising on improving the living standards and health of all Sarawakians.
“Rome was not built in one day, so consider this as a hurdle that we will go through successfully,” said Sim.
Earlier, Sivanesan resigned from his position as SUPP Stakan branch secretary, effective Sept 30. He had been a long-serving SUPP member, having joined 27 years ago.
He cited the party leadership’s lack of concern for the branch as one of the reasons behind his decision.
He claimed that the branch was sidelined on numerous occasions, in addition to not being given an active role regarding party matters.
