KUCHING: The Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) in Limbang Division was working hard yesterday to restore the water supply in Lawas District as soon as possible.

According to a press release issued by Utility Ministry yesterday, the water supply was disrupted on Friday evening, December 28, 2018 because the cross arm used to support a power line to the water plant in the Trusan region was broken.

With the help of Lawas Sesco, the water supply was restored on Saturday morning, December 29, 2018.

However, electricity supply to the plant was cut off for the second time on Sunday afternoon December 30, 2018 after tree branches fell on the same power line in the evening.

Standby power generators which failed to function due to the damage of critical components were repaired by JBALB Limbang staff and contractors.

The repair of the electricity poles was completed yesterday while the water supply was expected to return to normal after midnight.

As a short-term action, the ministry said it would, with the cooperation of Sarawak Energy, clear the plants near the power line to the water plant more frequently, especially during the monsoon season.
