KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi hopes that with Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s appointment as the nation’s ninth Prime Minister, Sarawak would be able to enjoy development like those in Malaya.

“Since the era of the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem as Chief Minister, Sarawak’s main demand has been claims pertaining to Sarawak’s eroded rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“Since then, the Sarawak government has never stopped reclaiming these eroded rights, including those involving the state’s revenue such as oil and gas,” said the Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU).

He said this in a statement on Friday (Aug 20), congratulating the new Prime Minister whose appointment was announced earlier the same day.

“We also hope that under Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, attention can be given to the dilapidated schools which are a major problem, especially in rural areas,” he said.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply), said that in order to become a high-income state by 2030, Sarawak required significant allocations especially in developing utility facilities such as water and electricity.

He also pointed out Sarawak’s hope for the federal government to give attention to the development of the Pan Borneo Highway which would benefit the people of the state.

“We hope that the federal government can pay more attention to us after this, especially with regard to the division of allocations.

“I pray that the nation’s political arena calms down so that we can collectively combat the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
