MUKAH: Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo is looking forward to see more flights connecting Mukah with other destinations in the country.

He said perhaps there would be flights to and from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu in future.

He hoped the new routes would facilitate travel for the local people and others in the public and private sectors.

He said among the people who would benefit would be lecturers at institutions of higher learning who have to travel to related campuses when there is a need.

“Certainly, this is also good for local tourism as Mukah has its own attractions,” he told reporters when witnessing the last day of operations of the old airport here today (June 16).

The former Balingian assemblyman was asked about his hope for the new Mukah Airport at KM7 Jalan Mukah-Oya, which will commence operation on Thursday (June 17).

On the old airport, he suggested that perhaps it could be used for related purposes such as a place to conduct pilot training.

On a suggestion that it could be used as a place for youth motor sports, he said it has to be discussed with relevant parties first, including Mukah Member of Parliament (MP).

“We could put up a proposal, but it would be up to the state Cabinet to decide,” he added.

The old airport is about three kilometres from town, some 400 metres off the old Jalan Mukah-Oya.
