KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian hopes a Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office can be set up in China in the near future.
Commenting on the success of the first Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) in the City of Lion, he said it had become a platform to market Sarawak made products outside the country.
“Since the change of political landscape in 2018, our Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has always talked about ‘Sarawak First’.
“And one of the Sarawak products is STATOS which started operation in 2019 and since then, it has helped a lot of Sarawakians to market their products to Singapore and beyond.
“At the same time, it also brings people from Singapore and Sarawak opportunities in tourism and agriculture,” he said in a video posted on his social media account yesterday (Monday).
He added recently, the Brunei government had given the greenlight to Sarawak to set up its trade office and tourism office in Brunei.
“Next after Brunei is Kalimantan, and hopefully in the near future, there will be a Sarawak trade and tourism office in China,” he said.
Such tourism and trade offices, he said, not only provided an opportunity for importers but also for locals to export their products.
“Furthermore, it is also an opportunity for the investors in our new economy that is based on the green and blue economy, renewable energy,” he said.
