KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof hopes that the present federal government is able to last until its end of term.
He said that following the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the parties and coalition recently to form a unity government, the focus of the present government is to administer the country well.
“I hope it (unity federal government) is able to last. This is because our focus should no longer be on politics.
“When a government is already formed, we should focus on having good governance so that our country is in a good state and we need a stable political situation to ensure that leaders can focus on administering the country.
“This is so that we are able to bring the country to higher level in terms of economy and others,” he said in a press conference when asked whether the new federal government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is able to last for one term at Waterfront Hotel here today.
He stressed as expected the world is facing economic challenges, thus it is more than important to ensure that country’s stability.
“If we are still concerned about politics and not focusng on the development of the country, the country’s situation might not perform well and the victims will be the people.
“So, what is important now is to focus on creating stability and hopefully with this stability will lead to good economic growth. And many investors will come at the same time able to provide job opportunities,” he said.
To a question whether the matters of confidence motion and supply bill as stated in the agreement signed between the political parties and coalitions are not complied by the MPs, Fadillah said the MoU signed is to get the understanding from all parties to form a unity government and the basis is to form political stability.
“When Anwar becomes the prime minister, his duty is to form a unity government. And that is why he discussed with parties namely, Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), other small parties and independents.
“So, the negotiation in the form of an agreement is the agreed terms. The terms are being agreed to and it is an understanding.
“Whether it can be enforced or not, it depends on who wants to take the matter to the court and at the end of the day, the court will decide.
“There are many agreements made. Because, people may not be satisfied and will take it to court. The one who interprets the matter is the court, and whether it is according to the law or not, we leave it to the court,” he said.
He added that to form a political stability was to prevent past events of which the country has seen the change of three prime ministers due to vote of no confidence.
“That is why we want to have a stable situation and make sure that there is no vote of confidence after this.
“God willing, I will table the confidence motion (in Anwar) next Monday,” he said.
