KUCHING: Sarawak has been referred to as the ‘Land of the Hornbills’ and living up to its name,  a Sarawakian has decided to put up a Hornbill wall sculpture and statue along one of the commercial buildings here.

Located at the back of Wisma Forda at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, the magnificent Hornbill wall sculpture and statue was created by Eva Vannessa.

She told New Sarawak Tribune that the sculpture together with the statue is in the process of being completed in one week’s time.

Eva, aged 27, who graduated with a Master in Fine Arts, is also a staff at Wisma Forda.

“Hornbill is an official symbol of Sarawak, so by creating the Hornbill sculpture, it will depict the uniqueness of Sarawak.

“At the same time, we hope to attract more people to visit Wisma Forda area with the latest attraction,” she said.

The sculpture and the statue are said to be done with several techniques and tools.

“Among the tools that have been used to make the mural painting are stencils and acrylic paint while for the sculpture, resin with fibre wool are used to create the shape and iron for the framework.

“So, the cost that I spend for the sculpture and the painting is about RM1,000,” she disclosed.

Eva also said that the sculpture would be erected permanently there and, to prevent the colour of the sculpture being damaged by the rain, she used weatherboard acrylic paint.

Furthermore, the Hornbill wall sculpture is her second artwork at Wisma Forda. Her first artwork is the Hornbill statue near the junction at the back of the same building.

She added that the wall sculpture could attract the locals or the public to take photos there.

“This place is where the cars passed by, so they can stop to take photos here,” she said.

In addition, she has 10 artworks projects that are still in the process to be completed.
