KUCHING: Hotels here are expecting higher occupancy rate when the school holiday starts this week.

And with Gawai Dayak Festival and Hari Raya Aidilfitri just days away, tourists should be heading for the city.

A check of hotel booking websites showed that the holiday season has brought constant bookings from travellers to the city for leisure and other activities.

Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Sarawak chapter chairman Mohamad Ibrahim Nordin when contacted yesterday said most hotels are getting a fair slice of the cake as they tap into the Ramadan iftar (breaking fast) dinner promotions.

He added that the hotels provide an array of local delicacies for customers to savour throughout the holy month of Ramadan.

“Currently, most hotels enjoy brisk business during the Ramadan Food promotion,” said Mohamad Ibrahim, adding however, that the occupancy of hotels should pick up as the public holidays approach.

He believes bookings would not be made early but last minute rather.
