KUCHING: Orchid Garden Coffee House at Grand Margherita Hotel is now clearly a halal food outlet.
Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain yesterday handed over the halal certificate to the coffee house.
“SEDC hasalways complied with the halal certification procedures for all the chains of hotels under its tourism and hospitality division,” he stressed, adding that the government agency had always secured the Halal certification from JabatanKemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) through the endorsements from Jabatan Agama Islam Sarawak (JAIS).
“SEDC Sarawak has always emphasised the importance of having the halal certification from both JAKIM and JAIS in order to help our Muslim customers meet their religious compliance.
“This also covers a wide range of goods and services which are available at all the hotels which we are operating,” Aziz said.
He said SEDC Sarawak had always imposed strict procedures in the procurement of food suppliers from its list of vendors and suppliers as part of its compliance with the procedures as defined by JAKIM and JAIS.
“We want all of our vendors and suppliers to be aware of the halal requirements, standards of acceptance and certification that will further establish our credibility and assure our Muslim customers of the strict compliance to the halal processes,” he added.
The SEDC chairman pointed out that the halal certification also benefited everyone because it was also a stamp of purity and assurance on the quality of products.
“Getting halal certified foods can be viewed as consuming wholesome and healthy products that can bring benefits to our physical and spiritual well-being,” he added.
“We have always upheld high standards of integrity and ethical ways of doing business and this includes getting our halal certified supply of foods and perishable materials for all of our Muslim customers and such, these practices will also be beneficial to those from other religious backgrounds as well.”.
