KUCHING: Two separate emergencies occurred here today, involving a house fire in Batu Kawa and a road accident in Kampung Baru Stutong, both requiring prompt action from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).
In the first incident, a house fire broke out at 8.57 am at Jalan Sinsantu, Batu Kawa here. A semi-detached single-storey house, occupied by two families, was nearly destroyed, with 90 per cent of the structure burned.
Firefighters from the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by the Batu Lintang Fire Station, arrived at the scene to contain the blaze. Using a 400-foot hose and an open water source from a nearby drain, they managed to control the fire by 9.30 am.
Overhaul operations followed to prevent any reignition, and the operation concluded at 10.40 am.
Later a road accident was reported at 10.49 am on Jalan Stutong Baru, Kampung Baru Stutong here. The collision involved two vehicles—a Perodua Viva and a Toyota Vios—resulting in six people being injured.
A team from the Tabuan Jaya Fire Station was dispatched to the scene, where they extricated two victims trapped in the vehicles. The remaining victims had been helped out by bystanders before the arrival of the rescue team.
All injured individuals received medical attention from the Ministry of Health (MoH) personnel, who were on-site alongside the Royal Malaysia Police.
