House in Kota Samarahan struck by lightning, catches fire

A portion of a roof caught on fire after it was struck by lightning during heavy rain yesterday.

KOTA SAMARAHAN: A double-storey house here in Taman Rafflesia, Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa, caught on fire after its roof was struck by lightning during heavy rain yesterday.

A spokesman from the Sarawak Fire Department (Bomba) said they received a distress call from the owner around 5.05pm pertaining to sparks and smoke coming from the roof.

Firemen from Kota Samarahan station were promptly despatched to the scene to commence extinguishing works.

Upon arriving, the team found that the small fire had been put out by some factory workers living nearby.

It was reported that only a small part of the roof was affected.

The team only carried out inspections to ensure that the fire would not reignite before ending the operation at 6.10pm.
