MIRI: A ‘mangkung tiang’ ceremony or house warming in the Iban lingo was performed yesterday at Rumah Richard Pie’s new longhouse, Bakas in Ulu Sibuti.
The construction of the 53-door longhouse was just recently completed.
With a total of 500 residents, the newly completed longhouse is located adjacent to its previous site at Jalan Pan Borneo here.
According to Tuai Rumah Richard, they had decided to construct the longhouse because of their old longhouse was suffering structural damaged.
“Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Development I Datuk Rosey Yunus cum Bekenu assemblywoman had also chipped in to help in the construction of the newly built longhouse,” he said.
