MUKAH: Police arrested a 23-year-old housewife for alleged involvement in drug abuse activities at Jalan Mukah-Selangau on Friday (Jan 7).
This was the second case reported for this year, and in the space of five days, following the first one in the old town here on Jan 2.
The suspect, who is from Rumah Api, Nanga Terusa, Katibas in Song, was arrested during an operation code-named Ops Tapis.
Mukah district police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias, said on Jan 7 at about 2.30pm, the Narcotic Crime Investigation Department team raided an unnumbered house at Jalan Mukah-Selangau.
He added, a woman, who was suspected to be involved in drug abuse activities, was arrested.
According to him, the police checked the room and found a green sweet container partly covered with black adhesive tape on a table.
“It contains three transparent plastic packets filled with crystalline substances suspected to be Methamphetamine, weighing about 1.23g with estimated value of RM150,” he said on the same day shortly after the discovery of the item.
The drug was confiscated and the suspect detained. She was subsequently brought to the police station for further action.
He revealed that initial investigation found the suspect denied possessing the drug, while initial urine test found she was drug negative.
The suspect is being detained at the police lock-up here pending a remand order to be applied by the investigation officer today (Jan 8).
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
If found guilty, the suspect can be sentenced under Section 12(3) of the Act, which provides for a jail sentence of not more than five years, or a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or both.
