KUCHING: The office lunch break is often a source of contention for many.
Several employees here have mixed views about the time duration, which is usually an hour.
Godwin Ngu and Alvin Kiu, both 24, agree that an hour is enough for them to grab their lunch and head back to work.
“Yes, due to the fact that I am a fast eater,” quipped Godwin.
“There are a lot of eateries around so it is very convenient for me to look for food and head straight back to the office when I’m done,” Alvin added.
Daniel Goh, 27, also agrees that an hour is more than enough for him.
“Normally, my lunch time is an hour and personally, it is more than enough for me. There is an abundance of eateries around my office so it’s easy for me.
“After that, usually I would just go back to the office to settle down and have a short rest,” he added.
Meanwhile, a lady who preferred to be known as Ms Tan thinks that an hour is not enough for her.
“There are no eateries around my office, so either I bring my own food, which will be enough for me to finish in the office within an hour, or I would have to go somewhere a bit farther from my office to eat,” she added.
A young man, who preferred to be known only as Luqman, also thinks that an hour is not enough.
“I mean if I bring my own lunch then I guess it should be enough. However, in my case, if I need to walk to eateries nearby to grab my food due to the fact that I do not have a car, it would not be enough unless I rush myself to finish my food, and that is if I do not have to wait long for my food,” he elaborated.
He added: “Not to mention if I go to a packed eatery and it takes a long time for my food to arrive, it would only leave me with around 20 minutes to finish my food and get back to my office, and an hour is not enough for me.”
Revon Jeremiah, who has a lunch break of one hour 30 minutes, says the time duration is more than enough for him to eat lunch.
He thinks that the usual regulated time duration of one hour is not enough for many out there.
“They drive out, and they still need to look for a place to park. Then there’s the time spent waiting for their food to be served.”
