KUCHING: Hock Seng Lee Berhad (HSL) held its head office’s activity day last Saturday as part of the company’s continuous initiative to encourage and promote a healthy lifestyle among its staff.
This event also marked the Group’s first gathering since it rolled out its wellness programme, themed “Healthy Bodies Happy Minds” last September which saw numerous corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities being carried out.
According to HSL’s corporate communications manager, Cheryl Cheah, staff members were given time-off on working Saturdays as well as an allowance to participate in charitable practices or organise outreach activities that would benefit the local community.
“Aside from outreach activities, the two-pronged campaign also aims to encourage our staff to be more active, get together and team up outside of their usual working environment. We believe that this would help foster better relationships among our employees,” she said.
There are five teams of about 200 staff from their headquarters’ office and under the leadership of their Team Ambassadors, the teams took turns each month to engage in community service activities, Cheah explained.
“So far, we have completed a range of activities such as a beach clean-up at Telok Melano in Sematan, volunteering for charitable and environment conservation runs and provided assistance to the less fortunate people with Down Syndrome, orphans and single mothers.
“I think we have done a good job so far and after having contributed to others through our outreach programme for the past few months, it is now time for us as colleagues to get together to celebrate and also take care of ourselves before we continue to serve others,” she said.
The event took place at the Sarawak State Library near the lakeside park, with over 200 of HSL’s employees working up a sweat as they participated in various exciting team-building games, a line dance routine and a run that took them around the scenic lake in front of the library.
The 1KM Fun Run was followed by a free and easy fellowship session among all departments as well as food and drinks to end the event.
HSL is expected to continue with its outreach programme and furthering its cause to cultivate the spirit of giving.
“At HSL, we aim to be progressive and we want to be a positive force in our community where we initiate positive changes. Therefore, we would like to continue to foster this company-wide culture where we could work together to do some good for our society as well as the environment,” she added.
Cheah also said that the company welcomed CSR ideas from the public. For more information, contact 082-332755 or visit hsl.com.my where there is a dedicated CSR page.
