SARIKEI: The Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii reassures the people in his constituency that the Sarawak government is committed in implementing essential infrastructure development in Sarikei to improve the standard of living for the people.

During his eight years as their representative, he has successfully addressed the needs of his constituents.

He said that restoring and developing longhouses has been the key focus of his work, ensuring that development in urban, rural, village, and longhouse areas are carried out inclusively, without marginalising any ethnic groups.

The minister shared these remarks during his recent visits to several longhouses, including Rumah Panjang Stie, Rumah Panjang Endawi, and Rumah Panjang Jambing.

During these visits, he expressed his commitment to ensuring equitable development for all communities.

He further added the state government under the leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, is actively pursuing a development agenda that ensures the interests of all ethnic groups in Sarikei and Meradong are safeguarded.

Huang also voiced his concern over the dilapidated conditions of many longhouses and announced the allocation of funds to facilitate repairs, to improve the residents’ living conditions and enhance their quality of life.

In addition, the longhouse leaders extended their thanks for his contributions to students of primary and secondary schools in Sarikei, including those from longhouses.

During his visits, he donated school bags, shoes, and uniforms to the students to alleviate the financial burden faced by many families.
