MUKAH: Police from the Mukah District Police Headquarters (IPD) have discovered skeletal remains believed to be human scattered about 200 metres near a wooden house along the banks of Ubong River here.
According to Mukah District Police chief DSP Jimmy Panyau, a team of investigators was despatched to the scene.
The person who lodged the report, Marasal @ Sui Gapor who is a pensioner, went to his brother’s residence with his family to look for him as it has been a long time since he returned home.
According to Jimmy, upon reaching Marasal’s brother’s residence, he stumbled across bones which he believed were of human origin and went straight to the police station to make a report.
“A towel, a blanket, and a pair of men’s underwear were found at the scene. There was no sign of a struggle.
“Police also found an identity card belonging to Belagus Gapor, a 76-year-old man, in a black bag on the ground not far from the house. The bones and items found have been sent to Mukah Hospital for further action,” he said.
According to DSP Jimmy, based on information received, Belagus, who worked as a tree cutter in the forest in the area, has not returned home and has not been seen for the last two weeks by family members. It was also said he has been staying in the wooden house since a few months ago.
He added that since only a few bones were found, an identification process could not be done. However, a DNA test will be requested in an attempt to determine the victim’s identity.
Further investigations will be carried out. The police also said that witnesses —close family members — will be called to have their statements taken.
