SEMATAN: Mas Gading Community College, in collaboration with the Jabatan Kemajuan Masyarakat (KEMAS), successfully organised a course on hydroponic planting and maintenance at the Kampung Temaga Dayak Community Hall here.

The course aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) members, as well as other relevant committees, in the field of modern agriculture, specifically hydroponic farming techniques.

A total of 23 participants from the Kampung Temaga Dayak JKKK took part in the course.

Participants were introduced to the basics of hydroponic cultivation, including techniques for selecting suitable plants, nutrient management, irrigation methods, optimal lighting, and disease prevention.

The course also included practical training on building and managing hydroponic racks, providing participants with hands-on experience to start their own hydroponic projects.

Director of Mas Gading Community College, Khalid Husseine, said the course aims to equip JKKK members and other committees with relevant knowledge and skills in agricultural technology.

“This hydroponics course is one of the initiatives to introduce more efficient and eco-friendly modern farming techniques to rural communities.

“It is hoped that it will create new economic opportunities and generate additional income for them,” he said.

He added that the course also serves as an initial step for participants to venture into hydroponic agriculture, which is gaining popularity in the local agricultural industry.

“With the skills acquired, we hope that participants can start hydroponic farming projects in their own villages or advance these skills to a higher level in the commercial agriculture sector,” he added.

Additionally, participants were exposed to more structured and systematic project management knowledge.

With this knowledge, the Kampung Temaga Dayak JKKK is expected to be better prepared and more effective in implementing development projects aimed at benefiting the local community.

This programme not only provided new knowledge to the participants but also strengthened collaboration between government agencies in efforts to develop rural communities with more competitive skills. Mas Gading Community College and KEMAS Sarawak hope that more courses like this will be organised in the future to continue supporting the development of local communities.
