SIBU: Dudong assemblyman Dato Seri Tiong King Sing was confirmed COVID-19 positive today.
He personally confirmed this in a statement.
“With reluctance and sadness, I would like to inform everyone that I have been confirmed infected with COVID-19.
“I have been feeling unwell since yesterday and continued to run the COVID-19 ‘ID NOW’ test and found that I have a positive result,” he stated.
According to him, to be more certain, he underwent RT-PCR test and it turned out that he had been infected with the virus.
He is currently undergoing self-quarantine for seven days.
Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP, said that both his service centres in Bintulu and Dudong had to be closed as staff at the Dudong Service Centre also tested positive for COVID-19.
“All the staff are also currently undergoing quarantine. If there are any needs or inquiries from the people of Bintulu and Dudong, they can directly contact the service centre staff or my mobile phone.
“During this quarantine period, I will do my best to help the people in any way. I hope you all understand this situation for a while,” said Tiong, who is also Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president.
He advised anyone who had met him to do the COVID-19 screening test and undergo self-quarantine.
“We cannot anticipate where this virus is and who it will attack. I am not sure when and where I was infected with COVID-19.
“So, I hope all parties can take this situation seriously. Any inconvenience, I deeply regret, and I also take this opportunity to apologise to all,” he said.
In addition, Tiong called on the public to continue to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb the spread of the pandemic.
He asked people to stay at home if there was nothing important outside, to avoid crowded places, to wash their hands and use disinfectant fluids regularly.
“Hopefully we will all win in the fight against this virus,” said Tiong, who is the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China.
