BAU: A team from i-CATS College University took time out to do their bit to beautify the surroundings of the Catholic Memorial Pilgrimage Centre (CMPC) at Kampung Singai recently.
The 77 students and lecturers who were slated to go on a hike in the area handed over 200 saplings to be planted there.
According to the Faculty of Multidisciplinary and Sustainability Studies (FMSS) Dean Nurulhuda Nadziri, this is the first time i-CATS held a programme in the Singai area.
“It was held for students to engage in communication activities among themselves as well as with the local community.
“More importantly, the community service programme also helped to strengthen the bond with the local community, specifically the community in the Singai area, with various activities,” she said.
“A total of 216 plants were handed over to CMPC to be planted in its surrounding area so that the centre will look beautiful.
“This is in line with the vision of i-CATS University College, which is to be an exemplary educational institution of choice and produce far-sighted graduates,” she said at the the foothill of Mount Singai yesterday (March 18).
Nurulhuda hoped that activities like this can be continued in the future and held in other community areas, especially tourist attraction centres in Sarawak.
Due to continuous heavy rain, the hiking activity was postponed and other activities were organised to continue the programme such as games and group activities.
