KUCHING: International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS) is the first IPTS (private institute of higher learning) in Sarawak to establish the “Angkatan Mahasiswa Anti Rasuah” (AMAR) Club.

This was announced by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sarawak director Deputy Commissioner Razim Mohd Noor during the launching ceremony at i-CATS West Campus here on Thursday.

AMAR, previously referred to as the Corruption Prevention Secretariat (CPS), was officially rebranded on Sept 24, 2018 to include the involvement of all institutes of higher learning (IHL) in Malaysia.

“i-CATS is the first private IHL in Sarawak to establish A while the rest are from public IHLs such as Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), the four Teachers Education Institutes and other government education institutions,” said Razim.

He added that with the establishment of AMAR i-CATS, various collaborative activities, especially those on raising awareness about corruption, would be conducted in future.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Skills Development Centre (SSDC) executive director Hallman Sabri pointed out that awareness against corruption among students was crucial because youths today, especially students, were future leaders and thus, “must nurture in them anti-corruption values and attitudes”.
