KUCHING: i-CATS University College has announced the successful approval of the RM0.5mil Agriculture Facilitation Fund (AFF) from the Sarawak Land Development Board (SLDB) for their i-CATS UC Agrotech Hub located in Kaba, Saratok District.
A delegation from i-CATS UC, led by Professor Dr Kopli Bujang, Dr Mohd Norhelmi Ahmad, Professor Dr Abd Mutalip Abdullah, and chief operating officer Mohd Melintang Abdullah, presented their proposals to Sarawak Minister for Food Security, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.
“The presentation took place at the minister’s office at Level 9, Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Petra Jaya.
“Senior officers from the ministry, SLDB, SEDC, Salcra, and the Department of Veterinary Sarawak were also in attendance,” i-CATS said in a statement.
i-CATS added that the i-CATS UC Agrotech Hub represents a collaborative pilot project between i-CATS UC and Koperasi Kampung Kaba.
“This initiative will focus on processing sago fronds into silage, providing a sustainable and nutritious feed option for the ruminants owned by the Koperasi.
“Kaba was strategically selected for this project due to its abundant sago palms and the established operations of the Koperasi, driven by local community efforts.”
i-CATS UC aims to replicate this successful model in other areas, with preliminary discussions already held with district officers of Lubuk Antu and Gedong to explore the potential of local crops for similar purposes.
