KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly all 304 stores that participated in the Consumer Economic Shop Initiative (i-KeeP) gained up to 40 per cent increase in sales since its launch four months ago.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, said that the prices of items offered at the premises were between two and 20 per cent cheaper than other stores.
“Almost all the stores reported an increase in their volume of sales because they were able to keep prices for 197 consumer items lower than other stores,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to a question from Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (PH-Ledang) who wanted to know the difference between the i-KeeP implementation mechanism compared to that of Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M).
Saifuddin said i-KeeP was not focusing on the physical development and setting up of specific stores such as KR1M and that supermarkets and stores which participated in the i-KeeP initiative used existing premises.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin said the government was targeting to have 100 more i-KeeP premises this year and the number of participating shops was expected to increase to 500 next year. – Bernama
