LUNDU: The Sarawak government is now waiting on the court for a judgement as it had issued a writ of summons and statement of claim against Petronas for not paying the five per cent state sales tax (SST) on petroleum products.
“Just wait, let them (Petronas) be. It’s all in the law. That is why I leave it to the court,” said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to reporters asked him if there had been any response from Petronas to the legal action.
Abang Johari spoke at a press conference after performing an earth-breaking ceremony for the proposed Batang Rambungan Bridge in Lundu on Sunday.
When asked how much Petronas has to pay Sarawak, he said, “That you have to ask the comptroller; they have the details.”
He did not say more on the matter, only that it would be subjudice to make comments before the court decides on it.
Petronas is the only corporate body that hasn’t paid the tax imposed by the state government effective Jan 1 this year.
The national oil and gas company was given the end of last month as the deadline to settle payment.
The deadline has come and gone, so on Nov 21 the state government issued a writ of summons and statement of claim against it at the High Court registry in Kuching.
