KUCHING: Women’s Centre for Change Penang (WCC) recently launched a digital book in the Iban language that outlines how child sexual abuse (CSA) can affect any child including those with disabilities.
According to WCC, the 37-page digital book entitled “Sara Madah “Enggai” (Sara Says “No”) is about a nine-year-old girl named Sara who is diagnosed with cerebral palsy (CP), a condition where the individual is unable to move, balance the body and difficult to understand things.
Signs of CP depens on the severity of the condition and they include the inability to support the body, inability to speak fluently, brain condition and difficulty in chewing and swallowing food.
“All children, including the disabled, can be victims of sexual abuse. Children with disabilities are the easiest victims as they have problems with the way they think and speak to understand, telling other people to ask for help when abused. Sending children with disabilities to care centres can also cause this problem to happen to them,” the book said.
WCC also said that this book could help raise and spread awareness on this important issue, especially among Iban-speaking readers.
