MIRI: In a distressing incident on Sunday morning, 15 Iban graves at the Sungai Saeh Merah cemetery in Niah were vandalised.
The family members of the deceased have expressed their deep upset over this disrespectful act.
Tuai Rumah Sigiong Bakar, the local community leader, has lodged a police report regarding the incident at the Batu Niah police station. Following the report, a team of police officers visited the cemetery to investigate the matter.
According to him, one of the family members discovered the desecration when they visited the cemetery for a burial. Further inspections confirmed that at least 15 graves had been damaged by irresponsible individuals.
“We believe that these graves were desecrated recently, probably within the past two to three days,” he said.
