KUCHING: Three hundred and fifteen underprivileged families have benefitted from the ongoing community outreach and support programme by Ibraco Berhad (Ibraco).

According to Ibraco in a press statement, working in collaboration with Hope Place, a local non-governmental organisation focused on providing aid to underprivileged communities, it has distributed essential food supplies and daily necessities to financially distressed families in the city.

Ibraco has also provided free commercial space for Hope Place to operate its Kedai Bajet. The purpose of the shop is to sell all good second hand items the NGO has received and to raise funds to purchase essentials for all under its care.

Group managing director of Ibraco Berhad Datuk Chew Chiaw Han said that as a responsible corporate citizen and a sustainability-oriented organisation, Ibraco strongly believed in playing a pro-active role in reducing social inequalities by assisting underprivileged communities in and around its business operations.

“We also understand that our corporate social responsibility efforts must be both consistent and long-term so that they can have a positive and tangible impact on our society at large.

“That is why the community outreach and support programme this year marks the 8th consecutive year of our partnership with Hope Place,” he added.

Since 2017, Ibraco and HOPE Place have assisted more than 2,000 underprivileged families, touching the lives of some 10,000 individuals across the state.

Meanwhile, Kevin Wan from Hope Place said Ibraco was indeed a dedicated partner that shared the NGO’s vision of giving hope and touching lives of the community for a better future.

“Before carrying out this community outreach programme, our team has taken the time and effort to engage with local communities to fully understand their needs.

“This extra effort is not only practical but also sends a message to those who are in need that someone cares and are willing to help,” he said.

Wan also said that Ibraco’s initiative to improve lives in the communities was an inspiration to all.

“We hope to see more and more corporate citizens lend a helping hand to create a harmonious, fair and sustainable society,” he said.
