KUCHING: The 5th International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2022 (IDECS 2022) focuses on the importance of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) element.
Deputy State Secretary (Operations) cum Chairman of IDECS 2022, Datuk Dr Sabariah Putit said the ESG element would further accelerate long-term socio-economic growth for Sarawak, attract talent, encourage socially responsive investment and attract investor companies to adopt ESG practices.
“This aspect of the ESG dimension is in line with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 formulated by the Sarawak Economic Action Council (SEAC) and launched by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in July 2021.
“In PCDS 2030, environmental sustainability is part of Sarawak’s development initiatives for current and future generations,” she said at the 5th IDECS 2022 held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), yesterday (June 21).
She also pointed out that IDECS 2022 acts as a platform for experts to share inputs on the potential of the hydrogen economy, globalisation, supply chain resilience, digitalisation, new industrial revolution (IR 4.0), creative industry, digital community and transition towards a low carbon economy.
Sabariah noted that IDECS 22 is a special edition as this conference marks its fifth year.
“IDECS has seen its organisation from a physical to a hybrid one that relies on digital technology and mobile devices as a communication medium since the COVID-19 pandemic struck.
“IDECS 2020 has seen participation increase 10 times from 3,000 participants to 30,888 face-to-face and online viewing.
“Today, we see IDECS return with the expected participation of 3,000 people face-to-face and 40,000 online viewers,” she added.
