KUCHING: Social media commentaries devoid of sound arguments with underlying ill intentions against Sarawak was described as shameful by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) information chief Datuk Idris Buang.
This, he said, should be dismissed as it intends destabilise to the harmony in Sarawak and the country.
“Sarawak has emerged as a region of great pride and vision, contrasting sharply with those who engage in unscrupulous attacks and slander.
“A chameleon can’t change its nature, as a leopard can’t change its spots, so are those who prefer to use ‘hitting below the belt’ tactics to attack Sarawak when we refuse to play their dirty games,” he said in a statement today.
Idris, who is also Sarawak Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker said social media users should be responsible particularly when coming across write-ups with harmful intent.
“What Sarawak has been requesting is the return of its rights enshrined under the Malaysia Agreement 1963, nothing more and nothing less.
“Just because Sarawak was not aware of its rights formerly, it does not mean Sarawak should be taken for granted and continued to take subservient stance,” he said.
Idris who is also Muara Tuang assemblyman said Sarawak is proud to have a farsighted leader in Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg whom they owe Sarawak’s economic transformation to.
“We are very fortunate to have a leader with such outstanding wit and wisdom in successfully steering and charting the way for Sarawak from the time he took over especially through the stormy period of COVID-19 until present.
“Under his leadership, the revenue for Sarawak has doubled from an annual stream of just RM4 to 6 billion to that of RM10 to 12 billion now.
“To those who are well-learned, well-informed and fair-minded, we stand to be corrected,” he said.
The PBB man said while there are no stopping unfair observations against Sarawak by those who are determined to do so, he pointed out that the people can see right through them.
“For those who unfairly criticise Sarawak’s tenacious effort to advance without substantiation and proof, you may continue to maintain your survival by making derogatory and disparaging comments.
“We Sarawakians would like to move on and be guided by what is true and right,” he said.
