KOTA SAMARAHAN: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) has been urged to always enhance cleanliness and hygiene as a fight for the communty in its areas of jurisdiction. Muara Tuang State Assemblyman (ADUN) Dato’ Idris Buang said the cleanliness aspect had to be emphasised to ensure the community would be free from threats of diseases.

“We hope MPKS will enhance the cleanliness aspect in its areas of jurisdiction through cleanliness and beautification programmes,” he said when speaking at the launching of a smart community programme at the mosque of Kampung Empila here, yesterday. Idris disclosed that illness relating to uncleanliness had struck his family before when a member died due to the consumption of dirty water from a pond.

“Because of that, I have always been fighting to resolve problem of clean water supply in Muara Tuang state constituency so that such case would not recur. He hoped that the cleanliness programme organised by MPKS would be beneficial for the people so that they would not neglect cleanliness and hygiene in life. Earlier, MPKS chairman Dato Peter Minos said since becoming a municipal, MPKS had been striving to turn its areas of jurisdiction into a clean and safe municipality.

“Development will not bring anything meaningful if aspects of cleanliness and hygiene are neglected,” he said. He pointed out that with only 50 employees, MPKS was facing shortage in enforcement at the moment.

“This causes MPKS to face problem in monitoring projects currently implemented,” he added. Meanwhile at the event, Idris announced a Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM10,000 for the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Empila.

Among the act ivi t ies hel d included health exercise involving the villagers, cleanliness competition, health screening and compost making demonstration. Also present were Idris’ wife Datin Kasma Buang, Samarahan Re s i d e nt Ib r a h im Lump u , Assistant District Officer Rais Ahmad and the organising chairman Awang Edi Awang Chi.
