KOTA SAMARAHAN: Coming from a family with a musical background, Putri Arysha Jemat Mohd Hafiz Jemat is making her mark by achieving an impressive 4.0 GPA upon graduating with an Executive Bachelor’s Degree in Music through the Professional and Executive Programmes (PEP) under Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Business School (UBS).
Representing her peers at PEP’s 3rd convocation ceremony, Putri said her study of music has taught her that every note, rhythm, and melody embodies not just the art of music but also the essence of life.
Through music, she said she has learned invaluable lessons in collaboration, discipline, and creativity.
“It has shown me the power of expression, the ability to connect deeply with others, and the importance of resilience. In the same way, I believe the knowledge we’ve gained will enrich our lives in countless ways,” she said in her speech during the ceremony at DeTAR Putra UNIMAS today (Nov 8).
The youngest of two siblings, Putri told the Sarawak Tribune that she has always had a passion for music, constantly supported by her parents.
She added that they encouraged her love for music by providing her with a variety of instruments, fuelling her drive to become a better musician.
“My dad plays bass guitar, acoustic guitar, and other types of guitars, while my mom is a singer. They used to be in a band called Sayu Ateng.
“My parents have exposed me to music since I was young. I’ve always loved music, and their support has been endless. They would buy me any instrument I wanted to try,” she said.
Putri, whose primary instrument is the violin, expressed a particular fondness for the piano.
While proficient in both, she also sings, though only informally, occasionally performing at family events like weddings or birthdays.
Currently, she teaches part-time at IMH Academy Sdn Bhd, a role she has held for three years.
She plans to continue her bachelor’s degree studies in music and shared some advice on achieving academic excellence.
“To maintain a 4.0 GPA, you have to be committed to learning new things constantly.
“As long as it’s in music, practise regularly, and remember that knowledge never ends. Keep learning and keep searching for more to discover,” she said.
