KUCHING: Once again, the public are reminded not to easily believe fake or unverified news on social media.
Regarding this, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said people should only trust news from the authorities and reputable mainstream media.
“We are aware that some people spread fake news which can confuse the public. They don’t know whether or not to believe the news.
“So, my advice is just to ignore such news and only listen to the authorities or the government,” he said during a ‘Bicara Narafit’ show on Sarawak’s action plan against Covid-19 broadcast live on RTM on Sunday night.
He also urged the public to be disciplined and obey the movement control order (MCO) so that they and their family members could avoid the deadly virus.
“There are only 14 more days to go, so be patient, and pray daily for the end of the pandemic. The government needs the public to stay at home to make it easier to stop the spread of the virus,” he said.
Recently, the state government formed an application for mobile phones called i-Alerts to keep people informed of the latest updates on the Covid-19 situation in the state.
The app also serves to help the state combat fake news so that the public could receive the right information.
