SIBU: It is observed that illegal extension on building structures is on the rise, said Sibu Municipal Council chairman, Datuk Tiong Thai King.
“Rampant extensions done without approval from the council are not only deemed illegal, but it may also contribute to certain risks and hazards that will affect the safety of occupants and the public,” he said SMC at the full council meeting held at SMC office here, yesterday.
He also urged home and building owners to consult SMC and follow proper procedures before renovating their premises.
Tiong said the council’s enforcement team would be conducting inspection from time to time and stern action would be taken against those caught extending their houses or building without the council’s approval.
Also present at the full council meeting were SMC Deputy chairperson, Rogayah Jemain and acting secretary, Jong Thian Puk.
