BINTULU: A cargo vessel transporting 929 logs of various types and sizes worth RM185,800 were detained by Bintulu Marine Police last Friday.
Along with the logs, the vessel and a radio, a life craft, six fire extinguishers, 10 life jackets, an excavator, a radar and a compass on board, worth a total of RM4,417,000 were seized.
Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 commander ACP Shamsol Kassim said a patrol team conducting Ops Benteng Covid-19, came across the ship at Kuala Batang Kemena around 9am.
“Investigations showed that the vessel with six crew members comprising five locals and a foreginer, was en route to Bintulu from Sri Aman.
“The skipper failed to produce any papers related to the Customs Act 1967, such as port clearance documents,” he said.
Police escorted the cargo ship and the crew to the Bintulu Marine Police operations headquarters for further action.
The case has been handed over to the Bintulu Customs Department.
