BINTULU: The Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle in various illicit cigarettes and beer during a raid behind a premises at Boulevard Setia Raja, Mukah on Wednesday.
Its commanding officer ASP Ezuandi Bahadin said the raid took place around 3.30pm and the team managed to seize items worth RM121,836.80.
Four hundred and forty-five cartons of cigarettes and 42 cartons of beer were found inside a parked Pajero vehicle.
“The team also arrested a 22-year-old man from Kampung Petanak, Mukah who failed to produce valid documents related to the goods,” he said.
Ezuandi said that the man and seized items were handed over to the Mukah police headquarters for further action and the case is investigated under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act 1967.
