KUCHING: A total of 87,240 sticks of regular and clove illicit cigarettes worth RM124,296 was seized at a commercial centre in Jalan Penrissen, last Wednesday.
Also seized were two vehicles where the contraband cigarettes were found. The vehicles were worth RM80,000 and RM90,000 each respectively.
According to a report, Sarawak Region Five Marine Police (PPM.5) conducted two “Ops Benteng” (Landai) raids around 8.25am on two vehicles at Lorong Datuk Tawi Sli 4, in front of the premises and arrested two local men in their 30s and 60s.
PPM.5 commander ACP Shamsol Kassim said the two owners of the vehicles tried to conceal the contraband cigarettes in their automobiles.
“They are being held on suspicion of having committed an offence under the Customs Act 1967, “he said in a press statement.
The case has been forwarded to the investigating officer of Kota Sentosa Criminal Investigation Department for further actions.
