SAMARAHAN: Boxes of untaxed cigarettes worth around RM826,476 were seized by police in a raid yesterday.
Kota Samarahan district police chief DSP Sudirman Kram said a team from the General Operation Force (GOF) conducted the raid on that day at around 11am.
“The raid took place at Taman Midway Crescent and the team found a number of boxes of cigarettes in a house, which were suspected to be untaxed items.
“A vehicle at the house was also inspected and the team also found cigarettes in it.
“The police seized the cigarette boxes and the vehicle; they also arrested three men at the scene to assist with the investigation,” said the local police chief.
The items and the suspects were brought in to the Kota Samarahan district police headquarters.
The seized cigarettes were estimated to worth around RM826,476, and the three suspects are being remand for three days starting from today.
Police are investigating the case under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967, Sudirman pointed out.
