SERIAN: The inaugural intake at the newly-built Industrial Training Institute (ILP) will take place in January 2025.
MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem said ILP Serian is set to become the 33rd skills institute under the Ministry of Human Resources in Malaysia and the third in Sarawak.
He said the institute will play a key role in producing highly skilled individuals and fostering human capital development.
“I believe ILP Serian will open up more opportunities for the community, especially the locals, to participate in.
“Many thanks, particularly to the Malaysian government, for steadfastly deciding to proceed with the ILP project and turning it into a reality,” he said during his visit to the construction site of the ILP project on Friday (Nov 17).
Built on a sprawling 22.9-hectare site, the institute has the capacity to accommodate 600 students, has five workshop blocks, administrative buildings, dormitories, staff quarters, a mosque, and sports facilities.
The project, launched in 2018 under the leadership of Riot who was then Human Resources Minister, was initially reported to cost RM260 million.
Commencing construction on April 28, 2018, it has now reached completion, with the Human Resources Minister V Sivakumar announcing in the Dewan Rakyat on Oct 11 that the inaugural intake for ILP Serian is set for the January 2025 session.
The courses offered will include Building Construction Technology, Building Maintenance Technology, Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) Architecture Technology, Electrical Technology, and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology.
Sivakumar mentioned that the total construction cost for ILP Serian stands at RM250 million
