BETONG: Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor said he owes his political career to the late Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
“Because of his trust, I entered the political arena and was given the opportunity to contest for the Beting Maro seat in the 2011 State Election.
“With the trust of the late Tun Abdul Taib, I have been in the political arena for about 13 years. On a personal level, I am grateful and indebted to him,” he said when speaking to reporters today.
Razaili said described the former chief minister and eminent statesman as a mentor figure and that the lifelong public servant set a good example for the current leaders.
“We should be proud of his achievements. Wherever you go, there is a political footprint of Taib.
“Throughout his 33 years as chief minister and 10 years as the governor, it is fitting to call Taib the father of Sarawak’s modernisation,” he said.
The assemblyman said Taib through his politics of development approach has successfully developed Sarawak, leading a strong, stable, and financially robust government.
“This subsequently paved the way for swift development now and in the future,” he said.
Razaili who is the state’s public accounts committee (PAC) chairman said with a substantial reserve left by Taib at the end of tenure, it served as the foundation for development and enabled many infrastructures to be provided.
“I am confident that Taib’s legacy will be continued, just as it was done by the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem (as chief minister) and now by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“May the soul of Taib rest in peace and be placed among the pious,” he said.
