KUCHING: The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) has taken several immediate measures in handling the coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak, should it ever enter Sarawak.
Yesterday, JPBN chairman cum Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embass chaired a meeting of the committee that was attended by Local Government and Housing Minister Prof Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and members of the committee.
The immediate actions taken by the committee to ensure that Sarawak is vigilant in handling the outbreak includes coordinating among agencies by adding assets and equipment to detect virus carriers at the state’s entrances.
“The meeting yesterday also decided on a new instrument which is able to monitor each person entering the state’s main entrance,” he said.
Tomorrow, a new policy and a holistic action plan will be announced to address the case.
At the meeting, Uggah also mentioned that there would be a briefing for key stakeholders today (Jan 28) on actions against the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak.
The state government is very serious about the extremely dangerous disease which can spread quickly.
To date, there is no specific vaccine to treat the disease so the public are advised to seek immediate treatment in case of cough or fever.
