BINTULU: A two-day operation aimed at identifying and detaining undocumented migrants in town has resulted in the arrest of 46 individuals including four local employers.

The Sarawak Immigration Department said the raids from Feb 27 to 28 targeted 14 hotspots where illegal foreigners were predominantly present.

Acting on public tip-offs and intelligence gathering, the Bintulu Immigration Enforcement Unit inspected the documents of 133 individuals in operations codenamed ‘Ops Selera’, ‘Ops Kutip’, ‘Ops Gegar’, ‘Ops Sapu’, and ‘Ops Mahir’.

Of the figure, 46 individuals including four local employers were arrested.

The foreign detainees were arrested under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Passport Act 1966.

Meanwhile, the department urged the public to tip off authorities on the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through established channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
