SIBU: A total of 36 foreigners without valid permits and documentations were arrested by the Sarawak Immigration Department earlier this week.

Those apprehended were of various foreign nationalities and were taken into custody during a series of operations, codename ‘Ops Sapu’ held on June 18 – 19 in Sibu and Kanowit.

The operations focused on shared residences and farmhouses located near construction sites and cemeteries.

Acting on information, the Sibu Immigration Enforcement Unit examined a total of 54 individuals for their documentation and out of these, 36 were staying illegitimately.

The largest operation took place at a shared residence at a school in Kanowit, where 21 foreigners were arrested.

These illegal foreigners were found to be overstaying, lacking valid travel documents and lacking valid permits to stay in Malaysia.

All of them were being investigated under Sections 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The Sarawak Immigration Department encourages members of the public to report any information regarding the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
