MIRI: A Covid-19 positive case involving a local individual who recently returned from overseas was reported by Miri Division Disaster Management Committee.

According to its press statement, the individual returned from Tunisia via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on June 20 and Miri Airport on June 21.

The individual was asymptomatic upon arrival and a random polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test performed at KLIA on June 20 turned out positive for Covid-19.

The committee said it was taking all the necessary steps to ensure that the case was properly contained.

“The individual has been admitted to Miri Hospital for further observation. Currently, the patient is asymptomatic, stable and with no complications.

“The family as well as same flight close contacts have been identified by the Miri Health Department. All the close contacts are asymptomatic and further confirmatory testing will be done on them. All the close contacts have been issued the Home Quarantine Order by the Health Department,” the statement added.

The committee also revealed that the case would not appear in the Miri/Sarawak case statistic reports as it was classified as Import Category A (from overseas). The case would be registered at the place of detection at the KLIA/Selangor point of entry instead of Miri/Sarawak.

The committee reminded the public, especially those returning from oversea countries, to declare they had been to other country (ies) over the past 30 days in the Health Declaration form.

“They can also voluntarily approach and declare the information to the Civil Defence or Health personnel stationed at Miri Airport for this purpose.

“Those who fail to declare or like-wise withhold information of overseas travel history will be liable to a fine not exceeding RM1,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988,” it said.
