KUCHING: Both languages in Bahasa Malaysia and English must be further enhanced to move the country forward.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said several matters were brought up by the State Ministry Of Education Innovation and Talent Development, among them were education policy related to the English language in the State.
“Additional policies are not a problem, as long as they do not coincide with each other,” he said.
Anwar told reporters after receiving a courtesy call from the Gawai committee at the Hilton Hotel yesterday.
Anwar then added that additional policies are important and view that for Malaysia to move forward, proficiency in both languages is vital.
“Strengthening the Bahasa Malaysia language is crucial and proficiency in English must also be further enhanced,” he said.
On May 13, State Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn announced that Sarawak’s secondary schools will gradually introduce English as the medium of instruction for Mathematics and Science subjects starting in 2026.
Sagah added that English will be used for teaching Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
