KUCHING: The Indonesian government is looking to enhance its cooperation with the Sarawak government to improve the transportation networks in both regions.
The Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching Raden Sigit Witjaksono said with the relocation of the Indonesian capital to Nusantara, transportation links between Indonesia and Sarawak would be strengthened, especially in cross-border areas.
“The Indonesian government aims to bolster cooperation, particularly in cross-border areas, to facilitate the movement of people between Indonesia and Sarawak.
“This is further complemented by the growing number of Indonesian citizens travelling to Sarawak, particularly for medical tourism and educational purposes,” he said.
He said this after a courtesy visit to Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at the Astana in Petra Jaya here yesterday.
Sigit expressed hope for the state government to provide better access for Indonesians through border areas in Sarawak.
At the same time, he also conveyed appreciation to the Sarawak government for its support during the 2024 Indonesian General Elections.
Also present during the visit were the wife of the Head of State Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, and the wife of the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia Lucy Octavia Witjaksono and their delegation.
