DALAT: The Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) will replace water pumps in the Lebrasau area to address the water supply problem in Dalat.
The department said a new high-powered pump had arrived in Kuching and will be brought to Dalat this week where the process of replacing the pump woukd take three days.
Speaking at a briefing session at the Dalat District Office on Tuesday (May 10), Utility and Telecommunications Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi called on JBALB Mukah Division to deliver treated water supply by truck to the affected villages during the pump replacement process in Lebrasau.
In another development, Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) said the process of channelling electricity supply to the Dalat sub-station was still underway.
The sub-station is expected to be operational by year end.
On the application by Dalat assemblywoman Datuk Sri Fatimah Abdullah to install street lights along Jalan Oya/Dalat, Julaihi said the facility would be installed in strategic areas first such as at the intersection of village roads.
Shortly afterwards, Fatimah and Julaihi, accompanied by their entourage, visited the Lebrasau Raw Water Intake and Sungai Ud Water Reservoir and were briefed on the water and electricity supply issues in Dalat.
It is understood that Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved an allocation of RM49.5 million on June 4, 2018 to address the issue of water supply in Dalat involving seven packages.
The projects are SAWAS Project for treated water supply at Klid and Narub, SAWAS project in Nanga Baoh, new Sungai Kut Water Intake, improvement works at Sungai Kut water treatment plant, improvement works at Dalat water treatment plant and Tegup high level tank, Kampung Kekan, improvement works at Oya booster station and construction and completion of high level tank at Sungai Kut, construction and completion of concrete ground reservoir at Dalat water treatment plant and the pipeline 355mm OD HDPE approximately G15km from Dalat water treatment plant to Kut high level tank.
Based on the latest report, these are projects that have been completed while others are in the implementation stage.
Also present were JBALB director Chang Kuet Shian, Mukah Division acting Resident Shafrie Saili, JBALB Central Sarawak division engineer and Mukah Division water engineer.
