KUCHING: Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah hopes to improve the quality of SeDidik teachers.
“SeDidik should emulate the approach taken by the Public Service and start implementing its methods.
“One of the conditions to qualify for a promotion is for the teachers to go for training and courses for a total of 24 to 42 hours annually, depending on their current grade,” she said during the SeDidik Excellence Award Ceremony held at Grand Margherita Hotel here on Monday.
Fatimah explained that the quality of teachers in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) depended heavily on their creativity and innovation in teaching young children.
She added that their ability to plan lessons that would engage young children and educate them also required a lot of creativity and innovation from the teachers themselves.
“Therefore, a ‘Best Teacher in ECCE Award Ceremony’ will be held next year during the ECCE Convention to encourage teachers to improve their quality in teaching ECCE,” said Fatimah.
She added other important characteristics for ECCE teachers included their enthusiasm and passion to make a difference to each and every child.
“Teachers must have the drive to unlock every child’s door to learn and overcome any obstacle a child may have,” she pointed out.
Fatimah urged all teachers to take the initiative to develop their knowledge, expertise and skills in teaching young children.
