BINTULU: Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) proudly achieved yet another milestone through the inaugural call of Alumina vessel at Samalaju Port recently.

The historic vessel carried a load of about 28,000 tonnes and with 180-metre length and 9.5- metre draft.

This vessel, MV Four Butterfly berthed at The Handymax Terminal which is part of Phase 1 Facilities planned for the Group’s subsidiary Samalaju Industrial Port Sdn Bhd (SIPSB).

SIPSB’s role is to be the backbone for the logistic hub and as the nerve centre for port services to serve the SCORE players, specifically in Samalaju Industrial Park. This newly build port is expected to be in full operation by June 2017.

Among the facilities for Phase 1 operations comprise four Handymax Terminals and one Multipurpose Handysize Terminal.

The Handymax Terminal is able to accommodate vessel up to of 50,000 deadweight tons while the Multipurpose Handysize Terminal is able to accommodate vessel with deadweight tons of 30,000.

As announced by Group’s Chief Executive Officer Dato Mohammad Medan Abdullah, SIPSB is expected to handle 2.3 million tonnes of cargoes through 145 vessel calls this year.

The cargo throughput is projected to grow in line with the development of the heavy industries at Samalaju Industrial Park.
